Functionalized Surfaces For Improved Biocompatibility Of Medical Implants.
A thin layer of the body’s own cells between the surface of the implant and the blood is verifiably the most biocompatible interface between implants and the body. The increased biocompatibility leads to improved tissue growth and decreased risk of thrombus formation. Thereby, the long-term durability of implanted medical devices is increased.
In cooperation with pfm medical titanium gmbh, as well as the Cardiac Surgery Clinic and the Institute for Microbiology at the University of Regensburg, DUALIS develops optimized surface textures on a nanoscale that improve the bio- and haemocompatibility of polyurethane used in implantable medical products.
