Pump And Membrane Technologies With Improved Hemodynamic Performance
DUALIS works on improving hemodynamic performance of pump technologies since many years. The most important issue thereby is to decrease the stress caused by the pump on the blood and its elements to minimize the risk of thrombus formation. In the scope of research projects by the DLR, an innovative pump technology has been developed which minimizes adverse effects on blood by optimizing the blood flow within the pump chambers. Through use of a hydraulic fluid and a new type of electrohydraulic drive system, the pump chambers can be filled and emptied carefully. The electrohydraulic drive is equipped with high performance engines used in DLR space robotics.
It is currently used for the development of an Implantable Dialysis Device (IDD), as well as for the development of a fully implantable Ventricular Assist Device (VAD).
